CNC machining services are offered by different companies around the world, for example, in China. The services help produce products for use in industrial applications like aerospace, medicine, and automotive. Objects undergo various processes like chemical and electrical processes before the final part is made. The items are cut using machines like drills and cutters to form differently shaped pieces. These services vary from one application to the other or depending on the end product. This post explains the different types of CNC machining services.
Different types of CNC machining services
There are three main kinds of CNC machining operations; drilling, turning, and milling. Each type has unique characteristics, making them suitable for different uses.
1. CNC drilling
The drilling process involves drill bits to cut the workpiece and form cylinder-like holes on it. The process begins by uploading any of the computer’s software that is the CAD or CAM. The drill bits are then connected to the object, which is then attached to the work desk to keep it in place. The machine example, Radial or Bench, has a control panel the drilling process is started and controlled. Different hole sizes are created when the spindle lowers to fit either bolts or screws. It is good to note that the drill bits are fed perpendicularly or angularly to the object. During the process, the operator ensures no errors are made, and if any, they are corrected immediately.
2. CNC turning
Both milling and drilling processes use multipoint cutting tools, but the turning service uses a single-point tool. The lathe machine is the primary cutting tool and removes materials from the item to create the final product, usually cylindrical. It works on the item’s circumference until the desired diameter is achieved. The machine’s capabilities are several, but the main ones are grooving, facing, and thread cutting. The entire process is run at different speeds, unlike the other two methods.
3. CNC milling
Like the drilling operation, milling also removes excess material from an object to create the desired shape. It does this using a rotating multipoint cutting tool. Unlike in drilling where an item is placed on a work table, here, the workpiece is put on a moveable top where it’s directed into the cutting device. The milling process accommodates various materials and produces a wide variety of shapes for different objects. Some suitable materials include glass, plastic, wood, and metal.
The milling process can be categorized into two; peripheral and face milling. In peripheral milling, the cavities made are deep, while they are flat and shallow in face milling. However, the final product characteristic determines which product to you.
Final Word
Industrial applications deal with different parts for various uses. Producing these parts requires varying machining services depending on the intended result. The type of CNC service you choose depends on the software used for programming and the design. The design can be complex or straightforward but always involve a design expert or manufacturer to guide you on the best CNC machining service for your products.
